Life For A Kid have Been supporting the Jack Christmas appeal since 2011. Jack has become so popular with the Foundations supporters, meaning lots of fundraisers come forward to help Jack. Jack has really become one of the main faces of Life For A Kid and Parents Tony and Dawn both help out as volunteers at all Life For A Kid charity boxing events.
Jack’s mum Dawn, explains more about her adorable son Jack.
“Jack is a happy smiley little boy who only cries when he is unwell. He is much loved by all of us, he adores his big brother Robert and Robert adores him.
“Jack seemed to be developing like any other baby until he had a stay in hospital and everything seemed to stop. We kept telling our Health Visitor something was wrong but she said I was paranoid!
“By 8 months of age Jack wasn’t even attempting to sit up, reach for toys or anything, after a lot of fighting we got our GP to refer us to see a Paediatrician who said that Jack has some sort of syndrome but doesn’t know what, that’s when it all started, we had appointments left right and centre.
“Jack has had genetic testing to try and determine what condition it is, so far they have tested for Angelman Syndrome and Fragile X which both came back negative. Jack’s DNA has now been sent to Paris to be tested for Moat Wilson Syndrome where they have found a letter change in the gene (ZFHX1B), which is associated with Mowat Wilson Syndrome. The confirmed diagnosis’s we have so far are Global Development Delays, Gross Motor Disorder and Brain Atrophy which was picked up on an MRI scan.
“Jack doesn’t talk or walk and has to have all food pureed, he can now crawl, clap his hands and waves hello & goodbye and always has a big smile for everyone.
“Jack attends Fredrick Holmes special school.”
What a great end to the year 2011 for the Life For A Kid Foundation, Jack Christmas got his Specially adapted £2,000 Trike for Christmas. Life For A Kid donated £1,700 towards the Trike.
We rounded off a successful year by putting a smile on the face of Jack Christmas.
Life For A Kid have continued our support to Jack Christmas with the help of Andrew “Wolfie” Pahlen.
Wolfie as he is known to friends took up the challenge of fighting in the Rugby League Rumble 2 event on 28th July 2012 at KC Stadium.
As well as 6 months hard training, Wolfie set out on a fundraising mission after hearing Jacks story.
As well as getting sponsorship for the boxing bout Wolfie got is Hull FC Supporters Funbus involved, and local Fish and Chip shops Elmbridge and Sam’s Fish and chips who donated a day’s takings to Jack.
The funds just kept rolling in and it’s been a mammoth effort by Wolfie to bring everything together and raise a substantial amount towards a Wet Room adaption at Jack’s Home.
Jack was also surprised with a specially adapted swing for jack’s 4th Birthday, just look at the smile on Jack’s face
Money Raised by Jenna Brough and Wolfie form the 2013 Rugby Wags Ben Nevis trek was also donated to Jack to go towards the building of bedroom & wet room as Jack needs to be carried up and down the stairs, which is proving more and more difficult the bigger he gets.
The next step is to raise enough funds to make a sensory garden as Jack loves the outdoors, unfortunately the family do not have a suitable area for Jack to enjoy himself.
