Life For a Kid Foundation Donated £1340 to 5 year old Hull boy Finley Stockton who suffers from a very rare brain disorder. The funds paid for a specially adapted hydrotherapy bath for Finley. Hydrotherapy is not widely available for children through the NHS.
Hydrotherapy is an effective way to treat children with neurological and orthopaedic conditions. It is enjoyed by children because it is fun and gives them a freedom of movement only experienced in a hydrotherapy pool. Using hydrotherapy as part of your child’s physiotherapy treatment can lead to many benefits such as:
- Promotion of normal development
- Promoting physical milestones
- Normalising tone
- Increase freedom to move
- Reduced pain
- Improved balance and coordination
- Increased strength of weak muscles
- Increased range of movement of joints
- Improved independence and function
- Improved circulation
- Mobilising and lengthening muscles
- A relaxing and calming experience
Finley loves to be in water, bath time is his favourite time and he will happily spend an hour playing in the bath, so for Finley to have the addition of hydrotherapy will hopefully help him to progress with his mobility plus it’s a lot of fun for him too.
Finley’s condition has baffled specialists up and down the country for the last four years, he is to undergo further tests to include, bloods, spinal fluid, muscle biopsy and an MRI scan in the next few months at Guys Hospital in the hope of finding some clues. Finley is unable to walk, talk, or crawl due to his condition, although he is a very happy little boy and an absolute inspiration to his mum, dad and big sister.
